LU approval for the Draka FT Data range from FSC Global.

FSC Global are pleased to confirm that the Draka Firetuf range of data and coax cables have passed the requirements of London Underground (LU) standard 2-01001-002. The Draka FT Data cable range is designed to provide circuit integrity to vital safety and communication systems in the event of fire.

As the official distributor of the Draka FT Data range of twisted pair and coax cables FSC Global are delighted with the decision as the LU engineering standard is both stringent in its testing and internationally recognized as a benchmark for fire safety.

The LU standard comprises tests for flammability to BS4066: Part 3, smoke emission to BS EN 50268 and toxic fume emissions.

In addition, both cables have been tested for and met fire resistance BS EN 50200:2000 and BS8434-2:2003 and achieved the required performance of class PH120 and 120 minutes survival time when tested to BS8434-2 for FR enhanced cables.

The results demonstrate the Draka FT Data twisted pair and coax’s ability for continued functionality in the event of fire and “rubber stamps” them as the ideal cables for digital signaling and CCTV in tunnel and train station applications.

The Draka FT Data range has proved to be the cable of choice in many public buildings for BMS applications and critical communication systems where mass emergency evacuation is required. The Low Smoke Halogen Free materials combined with the highest level of fire resistance provide unrivalled safety performance, whilst offering data transmission speeds approaching Cat-5 standards.

Building Management Systems (BMS), CCTV, access controls and traditional local area networks (LANs) for critical systems are increasingly looking for continued functionality in the event of fire.  FT Data can be terminated using traditional LAN Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDC) making them ideal for use in horizontal backbone wiring systems in offices and public buildings.

Firetuf Coax performs in a similar way to a 75Ω RG59 which is widely used in the CCTV sector. This maintains the integrity of video signal in the event of fire, enabling continued monitoring of fire exits and evacuation routes.

Applications also include video surveillance with digitised screening capabilities, for example where smoke detection systems are used. Due to the Low Smoke Halogen Free properties of the FT Coax, it is ideal for use in public, commercial and industrial environments.
