Lead sheathed cables offer superb protection from hydrocarbon contamination but they come with range of costs. Not only are they expensive to buy and slow to install, the lead sheath production is environmentally damaging and at the end of the cables life it can be very difficult to recover the lead for recycling.

For instrument cables there is now another option, a hydrocarbon barrier made from Aluminium/HDPE/Polyamide laminates can be used to replace the lead sheath.

These cables are better for the environment, lighter in weight, faster to install with reduced bending radius and have smaller minimum manufacture quantities, offering significant advantages all round.
